Between Raspberry Pi and Netbook 1Malaysia

So Small and Cheap

Do you ever imagine that one day, you can fit your computer into your wallet ? That is what David Braben trying and I believe already achieved. A computer with a size of credit card and so cheap around $25 – $35. The price is depending on how much RAM you specify. It is called Raspberry Pi developed by Frontier Development. Currently in beta and already on sale on e-Bay for charity.

You can watch the video below to appreciate the performance of Raspberry Pi.  According to David, Raspberry Pi can run Linux OS with LXDE, run internet browser, movie and Open Office. Don’t be surprise, it can even run Quake 2. Performance is not an issue here.

What I like to point out is that with the combination of small hardware and linux we could do a lot of things. This device might be a stepping stone to a greater things. (more…)

Make DraftSight work with Ubuntu 11.10

DraftSight for me is the best replacement for AutoCad. But when Ubuntu user upgrade to 11.10, they will face problem when  installing DraftSight. There is some problem with dependency .   However, there is easy fix for that just install manually the dependency package from Ubuntu.

So if you want DraftSight on Ubuntu 11.10 32bit you have to:

  • Download and install manually the dependency package from Ubuntu.
  • Install DraftSight
  • Alternatively use the terminal: sudo dpkg -i DraftSight.deb. Before that you may have to install libdirectfb-extra and sendmail manually. (more…)

Download Opera 11.60

What is you favorite internet browser ? What are you looking for when using browser? Speed, stability, addon?

My favorite browser of course, none other than Chrome. But I still install Firefox and Opera on my laptop. So it will be easy to open different Google account for reader and Adsense.

I prefer Chrome not just because it speed but I totally rely on Google service. For example, Gmail, Google Reader and Google Calendar. So Chrome blend well with all this service.

Anyway, Opera has released it latest Opera browser 11.60. So you might want to give it a try. For me, Firefox, Chrome and Opera has more or less have the same speed. For more detail comparison, you can check ZDnet comparison in details.

Plus you can check Opera mail, a built in mail reader with new clean interface.

Look at all the features available in the Opera browser. Opera is available for Windows, Linux and Mac and can be downloaded for free from http://www.opera.com/

Why You Should fall in LOVE with Lisa

I like Lisa not just because she offers you different desktop environment but Clem and Co knows really well what end user want. Mint new environment MATE is a great transition to Gnome 3. MGSE in the other hand want to make sure user are familiar with Gnome 3 . Their hardwork had been paid off, now Mint is the most popular Linux Distro base on DistroWatch.

One thing, about Linux is you have the freedom to choose for  what is best for you. That is the idea, so to PC user maybe you can try Lisa for free of charge. Just download her at Linux Mint. (more…)
