How reliable is your hosting ?

October 15th, 2008 Posted in hosting

Just last week,I have problem with my domain, ForumHacc.com. It fails to redirect to my forum that I created for my Hiking Club. Well, I found out that Mr AKuBetul also face the same problem and even 5xmom also face problem with her hosting.

Let me introduce my hosting first and how I deal with my domain breakdown.I have been using Serverfreak hosting service for the past 3 years. header How reliable is your hosting ?So far, this is the second time only I face this kind of problem. As usual, I will buzz Serverfreak taukeh, Sam Lee through Yahoo Messenger  to check my hosting. My line of conversation will start like this :

lankapo ” Bro, can u check my domain/hosting ?

bla bla bla problem solved

Lankapo ” thanks bro”

Sam Lee “np”

:) He will always end all our conversation with that without asking for money.I mean not asking for extra charge and happy to help. I remember once, asking him to transfer my friend’s old  wordpress.com blog to a new hosting for free.

It turns out that TMnet DNS is having problem. He asked me to change my DNS into OpenDNS which only solve my problem, other user that use TMnet DNS will unable to reach my forum. So, that is the best solution for now as we cannot do anything with TMnet DNS.

Google Change IP

Mr Akubetul however have to pay for RM5 extra when he called his hosting provider. They told him his DNS has expired and need to be renewed. I am not sure about that. later that day I checked, it still down. His domain still failed to reach his blogspot.

A few days after that, my domain back to normal along with Mr AKubetul site. Mr Akubetul mentioned one of his theory to me that Google has change their IP and TMnet did not update. Anybody can verify this ? As I am no expert here.

Bluehost Disaster

Back to 5xmom, her Bluehost hosting drove her crazy hehe.

I tried logging in during the downtime and I cannot even access my cpanel. And I cannot submit a ticket because if I don’t login, I cannot submit a ticket and if I don’t submit a ticket, I cannot communicate with Bluehost. Doh…

I think the problem has been solved since she is not complaining about it or cursing kaw kaw Bluehost anymore.

Choose wisely

I am not going to say my hosting is better than you, or have more technical wise :) (Sam, you should belanja me teh tarik for this). You can have expensive Premium hosting as much as you want. But when your site is having problem/breakdown, it will heavily rely on your Hosting Customer Service, rite ?.No matter your hosting is local or from oversea. Premium hosting or just 500 Mb like me hehe.

So choose the best hosting that is reliable and easy to communicate with their customer service.

Company that sold akubetul.com domain already refund me the RM5. They admit their mistake for asking me to pay DNS Management fee again after I do so last September. They told me its Google problem, but surprisingly my popiah.net that I bought from GoDaddy seems ok during that same period of time. Seriously no idea wat really happen.

I had the pleasure of YM-ing Sam Lee during the time when my hosting is acting up and you are right that he is a nice guy to deal with. However, since I just bought the hosting from my current hosting quite recently and so far they have fixed quite a lot of my complaints, I am going to give them another chance to prove themselves.

Anyway, I just noticed that I got faster support from them via SMS rather than email or any other way and they even supported me on weekends when my site was down on a Sunday morning. With that, I will stay on and see how it goes from there.
