Its look like Google has introduce new key factor for Page ranking. It is none other than speed factor. In other word your page loading will determine your page rank in the future. According to Google, even though it is not fully implemented yet but this will be another key element beside unique content and back link to determine your Page Rank . As a site owner we must take this a new challenge to optimize our website.

A few suggestion to check your site loading and performance :

1. You can view your site performance on Webmaster Tools Lab feature.

2. On your Webmaster Tools  Account, go to your labs then click to Site Performance, and you can see a graph showing status of your site loading. It will show how many sec it takes to load your site. Google will recommend either your is fast loading or not.

3. Next you can use Firefox Add On called Firebug and Pagespeed, to analyse your site performance. Install FIrebug first then Pagespeed. The add on will see and give suggestion regarding your site loading performance. I have done mine, the list are too long, from too many images, External Java Script, External CSS and etc.

4. So from that long list of suggestions maybe you have some idea why your page is slow and what you can do to improve.

How does Page Speed work?

Page Speed performs several tests on a site’s web server configuration and front-end code. These tests are based on a set of best practices known to enhance web page performance. Webmasters who run Page Speed on their pages get a set of scores for each page, as well as helpful suggestions on how to improve its performance.

from Google

As for me, I will try to use optimized image and remove unused plugin. If Google don’t come up with this new Speed Factor , page loading is still critical and the most important factor to capture traffic. If your page take hours to load, reader will close your site and move to other site. So stop using big image, mp3 song and fancy flash on your site if you want your page to load fast. Good Luck 🙂
